Free iPod skins at Skinpod.it

Recently, while surfing the web, I came across Skinpod.it - a very unique website that offers a large selection of free iPod skins for anybody with an inkjet printer and a spraycan of 'color fixer' laminate (found at most crafts and hobby stores).

Not only will you have the sickest looking ipod on the block, these free ipod skins double as scratch resistant covers, protecting your investment. A large selection of free ipod skins is available for all models of ipods including iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod Mini, as well as 3G, 4G and 5G iPod with video.

I decided to put Skinpod.it to the test, and set out to reupholster both my 4GB iPod nano , as well as my 30GB 5G iPod with video. With my packet of adhesive paper, and my color fixer spray laminate in hand, I selected the immensely popular American Flag skin for my Nano, and an orange and black tiger-striped print for my 5G iPod.

The on-site instructions were very clear and consise and printing out my free skins went without any problems. The next step was to laminate the skins and let them dry. I allowed them several hours to dry (probably alot longer than needed, but I had errands to run) and then cut them out. I cut them slightly larger than the guidelines, allowing for cutting errors, and to be trimmed to a perfect fit with a razor blade.

** If you use a razor to trim the skins, remember that you do not need to push very hard on the razor to cut through the paper - you do not want to scratch the finish on your iPod **

I found the 5G skin slightly easier than the Nano skin, but overall, both skins were quite easy to apply. Another trick that helped me to release air bubbles from the skin, was to lightly place the skin in position, and then start at one end and rub out air pockets using a BIC lighter.

I must admit that I am quite impressed with the skinpod.it free iPod skins! I was fully expecting the 'you get what you pay for' cliché to hold true, and did not have much expectations, but the end result is honestly as good as many pre-fabricated skins I have seen, and the large selection of free skins available makes Skinpod.it a site worth checking out!!
